The National Peanut Board (NPB) joined thousands of visitors in Plains, Georgia, on Sept. 27 for the 2025 Plains Peanut Festival, an event honoring the state’s rich peanut-farming heritage. This year’s festival carried special meaning, as it was the first held since the passing of former President Jimmy Carter, who called Plains home and whose legacy is deeply connected to the peanut industry.

NPB participated as a proud sponsor, with staff members Dena Malsom, Ashton Pellom and Roberta Silva hosting the organization’s booth throughout the day. They greeted attendees, shared NPB’s work to support growers and promote peanuts, and passed out NPB-branded merchandise that quickly became a crowd favorite. The booth served as a hub for festivalgoers to learn more about peanut nutrition, sustainability and the role peanuts play in American agriculture.

The Plains Peanut Festival is more than a community gathering. It is a celebration of the resilience and innovation of Georgia’s 4,000 peanut-farming families. Visitors enjoyed a day packed with activities, including the signature parade, a 5K run, a community bike ride and agricultural exhibits that connected the public to the farmers and organizations shaping the future of peanuts.

For NPB, the festival was an opportunity to strengthen ties with growers and the community while honoring President Carter’s enduring influence on the industry. “Being here in Plains, surrounded by people who value peanuts as much as we do, is a reminder of why our work matters,” said Malsom.

As the festival came to a close, the streets of Plains echoed with celebration and pride, reinforcing the peanut’s legacy as both an economic driver and a cultural icon in Georgia. NPB looks forward to continuing its support of events like the Plains Peanut Festival that spotlight the power of peanuts.
